Sterling Medical Devices participated in the development of CAN protocols. The project focused on application level medical device implementation; the goal was to integrate additional functionality in an existing system. The system consists of a Class III medical device and a number of ancillary devices that are interfaced via CAN protocols. It includes CAN protocols to communicate with third party peripherals.
The existing design and implementation was reviewed in order to ensure that additional functionality was added in a safe and timely manner. The existing software was updated to communicate using industry standard protocols. Documentation and testing was done to prepare for FDA/CE submissions to get approval for the updated system.
