Sterling Medical Devices Expands Operations With New Hardware Design Center Increasing Medical Device Development Capabilities

Author: Dan Sterling | Date: December 13, 2012

Sterling Medical Devices, a leader in product design, development and testing for the medical device industry, dramatically expanded its workspace with the opening of a new hardware design center that supports the company’s growing hardware development staff. The new building adds more than 4,600 square feet of office and laboratory space to Sterling’s existing operations in New Jersey, Massachusetts and Texas.

“Recent growth drives the need to expand our hardware development services,” stated Dan Sterling, President and CEO. “The new center provides even more resources to serve our customers and reinforce our partner-level commitment to their success. Our improved hardware capabilities, coupled with our deep expertise in software development, serve to support the fully-integrated offerings Sterling is historically known for.”

The Rochelle Park facility is custom-engineered to follow Sterling’s stringent quality standards, including full electrostatic discharge protection and a host of leading-edge laboratory equipment. The center is designed to deliver safe, efficient, and timely product development and testing.

What’s more, the new facility is supported by three key Sterling team members who bring a combined 65 years of development and manufacturing experience in the medical device industry to the new location. John Campbell, Director of Quality, specializes in compliance projects and quality system management. Larry Bischoff manages the embedded system development process encompassing electronics, firmware, and mechanical aspects of the project. Steve Hartman, who recently joined the company as Program Manager, offers expertise ranging from concept prototyping to cost optimization of the finished device.

5 Mistakes Medical Device Startups Make

Startups are the lifeblood of medical device innovation. Without universities researching ways to solve pressing healthcare problems or doctors with experience in a particular field who have an idea to develop a prototype medical device that could help patients, the future technologies needed to help save lives wouldn't happen. But the long, arduous road through the FDA submission process to get market approval can take a long time and cost a lot of money without help. Sterling Medical Devices has been helping startups through the FDA approval process since 1998 without ever having a submission rejected.
